Process for Becoming an Egg Donor

While there are many couples who are able to conceive naturally, there are some who, because of various circumstances, are unable to. So, they need to enlist the help of medical technology in their quest to become parents.

One thing that some couples will need in order to start their family is an egg donor . This is a woman who donates her eggs to a fertility clinic. One question that is often asked in reference to the egg donor process is how those particular women are chosen.

Basically, what happens is that young women (usually anywhere from college aged to about their late twenties) are recruited through advertising campaigns. Clinics will often advertise for an egg donor in women's interest magazines, as well as college publications. Sometimes clinics will also advertise in local newspapers.

Some women think that becoming an egg donor is as simple as just applying for the advertisement and then getting paid for their donation. The reality is that this is a process that needs to be taken seriously, because this is about making an important difference in the lives of a couple who is unable to have children of their own.

So, once the initial application is processed, the potential egg donor will be interviewed, and also need to be evaluated physically and mentally. If everything is deemed optimal, then she will undergo a surgical procedure (paid for by the clinic) to harvest her eggs. She will also be paid a fee that will be agreed upon during contractual agreements.
