Relationship Between Spider Veins and Pregnancy

Let's face it all you mothers out there – no matter how positive your pregnancy experience was, after carrying around your beautiful little baby for nine months you and your body are ready for a rest. Additionally, you might get something other than a new baby as a result of your pregnancy.

This means, specifically, that you could get spider veins. Even if you have no idea what spider veins are, chances are that you've at least seen them. These kinds of veins are very distinctive, in that they are small, and rather look like the lines on a roadmap. They are most commonly found on the legs, but they have also been found on the face.

How are spider veins caused during pregnancy? Well, as the fetus gets bigger, the added weight places pressure on the legs. The legs are actually a network of many veins, because without them, blood would not be carried from the heart to the legs and vice versa.

So, what happens is that the blood thus has a harder time trying to get through the veins, pools within them, and the veins poke out from the skin. This is basically how spider veins are caused. Now, it is important to note that as ugly as these kinds of veins can be, they generally do not pose any kind of threat. However, it is best to get them checked out just in case. There are several different treatment methods too, such as sclerotherapy, in which medicine gets injected into the veins.
