The Intricacies of Laser Tattoo Removal

In earlier times, people got body art first and foremost for tribal reasons. The symbols on their skin were indicative of their status within their communities, as well as their vocations. Then, body art made its way over to the United States, where it initially was met with social disapproval. Mostly, body art was only gotten by those who felt the need to rebel against society.
Now, however, tattoos have become so mainstream, that laser tattoo removal has become a regular medical procedure for some people. The necessity for laser tattoo removal generally comes up for a few main reasons, one of which having to do with romantic entanglements.
When a person is particularly enamored of another person, they practically want to shout it to everyone off of a mountaintop (assuming that they live in an area that includes mountains). This probably would have been a better idea than getting a tattoo of the person's name.
Now, sometimes it is alright to get a name tattoo. There are those who do it in tribute to a family member or a friend that has passed away. Some people also get a name tattoo of a beloved pet. However, when it comes to romantic relationships, a tattoo is taboo. In fact, there are even some tattoo artists who refuse to do these kinds of tattoos, because they just know that it will result in laser tattoo removal.
Why all this to-do about a romantic tattoo? Romances are fickle, and once a romance ends, the person wants the tattoo to end too. After all, when they get into a new relationship, their new boyfriend or girlfriend will certainly not appreciate seeing the name of their predecessor on their new love's body.
Laser tattoo removal involves using, as the name implies, laser light to erase the tattoo from the skin. The older the tattoo, the harder it will be to remove. This is because the ink had all that time to settle into the upper epidermal layers. Plus, tattoos that are faded because of exposure to the sun can also become problematic.
The procedure is very straightforward. The patient sits in a chair and a topical anesthetic cream is applied to the tattoo. Then, in quick pulses, the laser light is aimed directly at the tattoo. The amount of sessions that will be needed will depend on several factors, the most prevalent of which is the size and the location of the tattoo. The location definitely matters, because skin thickness varies.
After each session, the area that is being treated will be wrapped in a protective bandage that the patient will be told how to keep clean. The sessions will be spaced out so that the skin gets a chance to heal. What the laser is basically doing is getting rid of the old skin molecules that the tattoo ink has bonded itself to, and stimulating blood flow so that new skin tissue will grow over the old ones. So, it is very important that anyone thinking about getting a tattoo is sure that they will love it.
