DeWalt's recent survey of more than 1,500 construction professionals indicates that jobsite security is the No. 1 concern among construction industry end users and buyers. The study shows that 97 percent of construction pros are concerned about jobsite security and more than 60 percent felt that tool theft is the No. 1 concern and has the greatest financial impact. More than 50 percent of the respondents had equipment stolen in the past 12 months.
In an effort to address these concerns, DeWalt is introducing SiteLock, a portable, wireless alarm system designed specifically for the construction industry.
The system uses patented wireless technology to monitor numerous pieces of equipment or areas at the same time. SiteLock includes a portable base unit, which is stationed in an indoor location, that works with five wireless sensors. According to the company, if an intruder tries to enter a secured area, disturb a secured piece of equipment, or remove a sensor, an alarm is activated and a wireless signal is sent to a monitoring service.
The wireless sensors can be placed on equipment up to 2,000 feet from the base unit.
The system will be available early this year and will retail for around $1,000 for the base system with one key chain remote control and about $99 to $199 for wireless sensors. Twenty-four-hour monitoring service that notifies the customer and police.
