Water Treatment for Pregnancy

If you are pregnant you should drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water, around 64 ounces per day. Juice can be calculated in as part of your water, but juice will also add calories to your diet. Sodas, tea and coffee don't count if they contain caffeine, because the fluid becomes a diuretic, they make you go to the bathroom more so the truth is that you are losing water.

When you are pregnant, nutrients shoot through your blood directly to your baby via the water in your body. Drinking lots of water will also reduce your risk of urinary tract infections that are common during pregnancy. Water can also help so that you don't become constipated and it can prevent hemorrhoids. And the more water that you drink during your pregnancy, the less water that your body will retain. This is something that you will need to pay attention to during that last couple of months of your pregnancy; you can go into premature labor if you become dehydrated.

If plain water bores you then try some of the many vitamin waters that are available or add a slice of lemon to your water, whatever you do just make sure that you are getting enough fluid. Make a few stops throughout the day just to drink water.

Because your body retains water during pregnancy, you may experience some edema, which is simply water retention. This symptom of pregnancy increases during the third trimester, but can be prevalent at any time. The increase in your hormone levels can cause you to retain more fluid.

Tips to reduce fluid

• Put your feet up, they should be elevated above your heart

• Make sure that you wear loose fitting clothing

• You shouldn't take diuretics

• Eat foods like celery, onions, eggplant, parsley, garlic, peppermint, and even fish

• Exercise

Make sure that you keep all of your appointments with your obstetrician and tell him if you are retaining a lot of water. Water retention can lead to rapid weight gain which could signify the onset of preeclampsia. This condition usually develops in the last trimester of your pregnancy. However, if you are adding weight at an excessive rate, your condition should be closely monitored.
